Late applications: Districts may accept late applications after the December 1, 2016 deadline, however, no new applicants can be enrolled above the district's approved maximum enrollment for FY2017. Late applications can be considered for enrollment only after those who applied before the deadline.

If, after the NJDOE data submission deadline of January 25, 2017, any accepted choice students decide to drop their acceptance, the district may replace their seats with students on the waitlist, including students who applied after the December 1, 2016 deadline provided late applicants are considered after those who applied before the deadline.

After the  FY2018 NJDOE enrollment data collection on January 25, 2017, no additional choice seats can be added, with the following 2 exceptions:

1. Districts that accepted a student with a waiver of the application deadline may enroll the student at any time and may exceed the districts's approved enrollment maximum. A student who is granted a waiver will be given priority over any wait listed students. Parents can request a waiver form by emailing pschoice@doe.state.nj.us.

2. Districts with an enrollment preference policy allowing resident students who move after the application deadline to apply late may convert these students to choice, provided that the district dies not exceed its approved enrollment maximum.

Students who receive a waiver of the application deadline.  A waiver may be applied for if a student needs an immediate transfer and can demonstrate "good cause."  A student who receives a waiver will be given priority over any existing waitlisted students.  Request a waiver form by emailing pschoice@doe.state.nj.us  Contact the choice district directly or visit the choice website FAQs to learn more: http://www.state.nj.us/education/choice/parents/faq.htm

A Tier 1 student must be enrolled in a NJ public school in his or her resident school district at the time of application and for the entire year (2014-15) immediately preceding enrollment in a choice district. If applying for kindergarten, the student must be attending his or her public/free resident district's preschool; or if no public/free district preschool exists, he/she must have a sibling currently attending the choice district to be considered Tier 1.

Tier 2 students include NJ residents who have not attended their resident school for the entire year immediately prior to enrollment in the choice district and do not otherwise meet the requirements for Tier 1. This includes students who have been attending public school outside their districts of residence or private school. NOTE: Not all choice districts accept applications from Tier 2 students. Contact the desired choice districts to find out if they will accept applications from Tier 2 students.

District Choice Policies
The district accepts Tier 2 students.  YES
The district gives enrollment preference to students who have a sibling currently attending the choice district, provided they will enroll in a choice-approved grade/program and they meet any program-specific criteria.  YES
The district gives enrollment preference to choice students who have completed the terminal grade of the sending district (i.e., students who attend a choice district with grades that terminate before 12th grade and with a natural progression to this choice district). DOES NOT APPLY
The district gives enrollment preference to resident students who move before the application deadline. If resident students move and file choice applications for the following year prior to the deadline, the district will give them enrollment preference (i.e., accept them ahead of other applicants), PROVIDED that there are choice seats available in the choice-approved grades/ programs and the students meet any program-specific criteria. If the district has already reached its approved choice enrollment maximum, this preference will not apply. YES
The district gives special consideration to resident students who move after the application deadline. Students in this situation may apply as late applicants, PROVIDED that there are choice seats available in the choice-approved grades/programs and the students meet any program-specific criteria. If the district has already reached its approved choice enrollment maximum, this special consideration will not apply. YES

TRANSPORTATION NOTE TO PARENTS:
Transportation of choice students is not guaranteed. If a student is eligible for transportation (within 20 miles of the school) and the cost will exceed $884, the parent/guardian will be given $884 as aid in lieu of transportation and, in some cases, the option of receiving the transportation and paying the additional amount over $884. By Aug. 1, 2016, parents should receive notification of their transportation options from the resident district. For more information, read the Transportation Procedures for choice students.
